Peril from Above



A Brown Falcon scans the orchard, hopeful of finding one of the young chickens exposed. It does succeed in carrying off one of our young roosters who strayed too far away from his wary mother.
One of the local Raven pair keeps a close eye on the raptor having called the alert. The raven is on the right.
These 5 week old chickens are from generations of free ranging farm stock. Their camouflage feathering offers some protection in the long dry grass or up a tree.
Lily White stands out in her light plumage , easily spotted from above.
